Matt Hagen brings a wealth of baseball experience from both the amateur and professional ranks. During Matt’s amateur career he was an All-State performer on his high school team that went on to an undefeated Colorado state championship and an American Legion State championship. His high school success landed him a spot at Liberty University in Virginia where he went on to become an NCAA Division 1 All-Conference performer by leading the Big South Conference in home runs and RBI. While at Liberty, Matt also won a Big South Conference title and participated in the NCAA Division 1 National Championship Tournament. Matt’s success as an amateur did not go unnoticed as he was selected in the MLB first year amateur draft in the 12th round by the Seattle Mariners. His professional career spanned 11 years and saw him play in both the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres organizations. As a player Matt was fortunate enough to win 2 professional league championships and was also named to five professional All-Star teams. His professional career also took him to Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Matt has instructed camps and clinics throughout the United States and as far away as the Philippines and in Kenya.

Through-out Matt’s career he has had the pleasure of working with some of the best instructors the game has to offer. His high school coach-Jim Danley, is currently the winningest coach in the nation. Matt’s participation in the 1998 Colorado 3A State Championship was part of a run of 10 championships at Eaton High School since 1996. During his college days he was able to learn from former major leaguers and MLB national cross-checkers. Professionally Matt was fortunate to play for such MLB greats as Sparky Lyle (Cy Young Award Winner, World Series Champion) and Gary Gaetti (two-time MLB all-star, Word Series Champion) as well as many others. Matt also incorporates in his teaching the countless lessons learned by playing for, with, and against countless other Major Leaguers.

Matt also brings four years of experience as an NCAA Division 1 coach. He spent two years as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Liberty University where he worked under two master certified strength and conditioning coaches. As a strength coach Matt oversaw both the baseball and men’s soccer teams while assisting with the football program. Matt also spent two years as an assistant coach for the Liberty Baseball team. As a baseball coach Matt helped lead the Liberty team to the Big South Championship game twice. The 2012 flames squad won 41 games, including wins at #5 North Carolina and at #14 Virginia. A total of 20 players coached by Matt have gone on to sign professional contracts with Major League teams. Eighteen players have been selected via the MLB draft and two other signed free-agent contracts.  Matt has also spent time as a coach at the University of Texas Baseball Camps.  Matt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management from Liberty University.
